The General Star (Qisha) is one of the fourteen major stars in Ziwei Doushu. With it in your Life Palace, you tend to be independent and bold, and rarely turn back once decided.

What Qisha is, and why it is not the Seven Killings of BaZi

Qisha is a major star that stands for starting things, making decisions and acting under pressure. The Seven Killings of BaZi belongs to a different system and only shares the name.

A chart has twelve cells, called palaces. Each palace covers one area of life. The Life Palace is the cell about you.

Enter your birth date and hour in the free Ziwei Doushu calculator. The chart labels are in Chinese, so look for the cell showing 七殺. The palace name on that cell tells you where the star sits for you. When it sits in the Life Palace, this is called Qisha in the Life Palace (Qi Sha Zuo Ming).

Sha Po Lang: how Qisha, Pojun and Tanlang move together

Qisha, Pojun and Tanlang always form a triangle on every chart, and together they are called Sha Po Lang. When you read one of the three cells, read the other two with it, since they pull on each other.

So when Qisha is in your own cell, your Wealth Palace always holds Tanlang, and your Career Palace always holds Pojun. All three stars lean toward new starts and change, so your ups and downs tend to be sharper than other people's. The group name is only a label for the three stars, not a named pattern.

Qisha's brightness in the twelve branches: never Fallen

Qisha never drops to the weakest level in any of the twelve branches, and at its lowest it is only Neutral. Each of the twelve cells on a chart is marked with one of the twelve branches, a set of labels that runs from Zi to Hai.

Brightness says how freely a star works in that cell. There are seven levels, from Temple at the top down to Fallen at the bottom. This star is at Temple in six branches, Prosperous in four, and Neutral only in Si and Hai.

Personality with Qisha in the Life Palace

With Qisha in your Life Palace, you tend to be independent and quick to act, and you dislike being told what to do. How this plays out also depends on the Three Directions and Four Squares (San Fang Si Zheng). That is the group of four palaces you always read together, starting from your own.

Where you tend to shine

  • Pressure makes you focus harder.
  • You take responsibility and step up when things go wrong.

Where you tend to get stuck

  • In a hurry, you may act first and think later.
  • When you disagree, you tend to meet force with force.

Qisha in the Life Palace: with another star or alone

There are six pairings, set by the branch of your own cell. In three of them the star shares the palace with another major star, and in three it sits alone. "Sharing the palace" means sitting in the same cell, and the opposite palace is the cell directly across. Tianfu always sits across from it:

Facing the Dipper: when the pattern forms

Qisha Facing the Dipper (Qi Sha Chao Dou) forms when the star sits in your own cell in Zi, Wu, Yin or Shen, backed by helpful stars and free of harmful ones. A pattern is a name that old texts give to a set combination of stars. Both of these must hold:

  • Helpful stars presentThe four key palaces hold one of the helpful stars, such as the two assistants, Wenchang and Wenqu, or Lucun. A birth-year Hua Lu (wealth), Hua Quan (power) or Hua Ke (fame) also counts.
  • No harmful starsThey hold none of the six harmful stars, such as Qingyang and Tuoluo, and no birth-year Hua Ji (obstacle).

In Chen or Xu, it does not count. Missing the conditions does not make a chart bad. When they are all met, you tend to find recognition and standing in your career more easily.

Qisha in the Career, Travel and other palaces

Wherever the star sits, you tend to take the lead in the part of life that cell covers.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. In BaZi, Seven Killings is one of the Ten Gods. It is a stem that controls the Day Master and has the same yin or yang, such as Geng for someone born on a Jia day. In Ziwei Doushu, Qisha is a major star placed from where Tianfu sits. The two only share a name and are read in completely different ways.
No. Qisha does not appear in the Four Transformations (Si Hua) table for the ten stems. What affects it are the stars in its own palace or its four key palaces. For example, when Wuqu shares the palace with it, people born in a Ren year have Wuqu with Hua Ji. A Ren year is one that ends in 2, counted from the lunar new year.
The Complete Book of Ziwei Doushu calls the star "the high general of the Dipper", meaning the chief commander of the southern group of stars. That is where the nickname comes from. It describes an independent, bold character, and does not mean you are suited to the military. A chart shows tendencies, not a verdict. For important decisions, rely on your own judgment and professional advice.
