Wuqu Star

Wuqu is a major star in Ziwei Doushu that stands for handling money, getting things done and making decisions. The "Six White Wuqu" you may see in feng shui belongs to a different system. It has nothing to do with the star in your chart.

A chart has twelve cells, called palaces. Each palace covers one area of life. The Life Palace is the cell about you.

Enter your birth date and hour in the free Ziwei Doushu calculator. The chart labels are in Chinese, so look for the cell showing 武曲. The palace name on that cell is where the star's traits show most.

When that cell is your Life Palace, this is called Wuqu in the Life Palace.

Wuqu takes Hua Ji (obstacle) if your birth year ends in 2, and Hua Lu (wealth) if it ends in 9. It takes Hua Quan (power) in years ending in 0, and Hua Ke (fame) in years ending in 4.

The Four Transformations (Si Hua) are four ways a star can change. Which one it takes is set by your birth year, and the year's last digit is enough to tell.

If you were born before Lunar New Year, count the previous year.

Old texts cast this as the star in charge of money, and call it master of the Wealth Palace. The Complete Book of Ziwei Doushu (Ziwei Doushu Quanshu) says: "Wuqu, sixth star of the Northern Dipper, is Metal, and master of the Wealth Palace." The Wealth Palace is the cell in your chart about money.

Being in charge of money is about how you earn and manage it. It does not mean you will be rich. Someone who keeps careful accounts is not always the top earner.

This star is never Fallen in any branch, and at its weakest it is Neutral. Each of the twelve cells is marked with an Earthly Branch. Brightness says how freely a star works in that cell.

There are seven levels. The strongest is Temple and the weakest is Fallen, with five steps in between: Prosperous, Gaining Ground, Beneficial, Neutral and Not Gaining Ground.

Wuqu is at Temple in Chou, Chen, Wei and Xu, where it shows most directly.

With Wuqu in your Life Palace, you tend to be practical and decisive, and you do what you say.

Where you tend to shine

• You decide fast and are not easily swayed by your feelings.
• You have a head for numbers, and you think before you spend.

Where you tend to get stuck

• You speak bluntly, which can come across as hard.
• You rarely say how you feel, so people find you hard to get close to.
• You dislike asking for help, and you carry on alone even when tired.

How this plays out also depends on the Three Directions and Four Squares (San Fang Si Zheng). That is the group of four palaces you read together, starting from the Life Palace.

In five of the six cases, another major star shares the palace with it. Only in Chen and Xu does it sit alone.

"Sharing the palace" means sitting in the same cell. The opposite palace is the cell directly across.

Zi and Wu: paired with Tianfu

It shares the palace with Tianfu. You tend to manage money steadily and build up savings, and you hold on to what you build.

Chou and Wei: paired with Tanlang

It shares the palace with Tanlang. You tend to be ambitious, and you want both to earn well and to enjoy life.

Yin and Shen: paired with Tianxiang

It shares the palace with Tianxiang. You tend to work steadily and keep your word, and you are happy to sort things out for others.

Mao and You: paired with Qisha

It shares the palace with Qisha. You tend to be driven and willing to take risks, and you can push through heavy pressure.

Si and Hai: paired with Pojun

It shares the palace with Pojun. You tend to be willing to tear things down and start over, with bolder spending and career moves. Both stars are only Neutral here, so life's ups and downs may be sharper.

Chen and Xu: on its own

It is the only major star in your Life Palace, so its traits show in their plainest form.

Wherever Wuqu sits, you tend to handle that area of life in a practical way.
