What Lianzhen means, and where it sits in your chart
Lianzhen stands for rules, competition and strong feelings. Wherever it sits, you tend to take that part of life seriously and want to win at it.
A chart has twelve cells, called palaces. Each palace covers one area of life. The Life Palace is the cell about you. When Lianzhen sits there, this is called Lianzhen in the Life Palace.

What Lianzhen's Hua Ji means, alongside its Hua Lu
Lianzhen takes Hua Ji if your birth year ends in 6, such as 1986. If you were born before Lunar New Year, count the previous year.
Hua Ji tends to bring more tension to the palace where the star sits. Feelings can get tangled, and rules and paperwork need extra care.
The Four Transformations (Si Hua) are four ways a star can change: Hua Lu (wealth), Hua Quan (power), Hua Ke (fame) and Hua Ji (obstacle). This star only ever takes Hua Lu or Hua Ji. It takes Hua Lu if your birth year ends in 4, such as 1984. You then tend to be well liked and meet more chances.
Each ten-year Decade Cycle (Da Xian) can also give the star either one. So can each single year.
How the old texts saw Lianzhen: rank and command
The old texts treat Lianzhen as the star of rank and authority. The Complete Book of Ziwei Doushu (Ziwei Doushu Quanshu) says that in the sky it "governs rank," and in the chart it "governs command."
Rank means how high an official stands. Command means the power to give orders. So the star is often tied to rules, hierarchy and who has the final say.
Lianzhen's brightness in the twelve branches
Lianzhen is brightest in Yin and Shen, and dimmest in Si and Hai. Each of the twelve cells is marked with an Earthly Branch, running from Zi to Hai. Brightness says how freely a star works in that cell. There are seven levels, from Temple at the top down to Fallen at the bottom.
At Temple, your drive tends to go into real work. At Fallen, your moods may swing more.
Personality with Lianzhen in the Life Palace
With Lianzhen in your Life Palace, you tend to be ambitious and to value rules. How this plays out also depends on the Three Directions and Four Squares (San Fang Si Zheng). That is the group of four palaces you read together, starting from the Life Palace.

There are six combinations, set by the branch of your Life Palace. In five, another major star shares the palace. Only in Yin and Shen does it sit alone. "Sharing the palace" means sitting in the same cell. The opposite palace is the cell directly across.

Zi and Wu: Lianzhen with Tianxiang
It shares the palace with Tianxiang. You tend to know where the lines are, and you balance rules with kindness.
Chou and Wei: Lianzhen with Qisha
It shares the palace with Qisha. You tend to act fast and boldly. You may also take on too much at once.
Mao and You: Lianzhen with Pojun
It shares the palace with Pojun. You tend to break with the old and start fresh. Pojun is Fallen here, so life's ups and downs may be sharper.
Chen and Xu: Lianzhen with Tianfu
It shares the palace with Tianfu. You tend to be steady and good at keeping what you have. Your drive stays in check.
Si and Hai: Lianzhen with Tanlang
