12 Hour Pillars
The day splits into twelve two-hour periods, each ruled by one of the twelve Yellow Road or Black Road spirits. The Zi hour straddles midnight, so it appears twice: early Zi opens the day and late Zi closes it, each with its own pillar. Each hour also lists the almanac's own "Good for" and "Avoid". That is a separate method from the ruling spirit, so the two can disagree; an hour both call good is the safest pick.

Almanac Details: Day Officer, Lunar Mansion and Spirits
What a traditional Tung Shing reads for date selection. The Twelve Day Officers set the tone of the day, the ruling Lunar Mansion adds its own luck, the day's spirits each favour or forbid certain acts, the Fetal God position marks where a household with a pregnancy should not build or move things, and Peng Zu's Taboos are old sayings tied to the day's stem and branch.
