What the Health Palace Shows: Constitution, Not Illness
The Health Palace (Ji E Gong) describes your constitution, your state of body and mind, and where stress tends to build up. It can point to habits that need more care, but it cannot predict or diagnose illness. It is one of the twelve palaces in Ziwei Doushu.
Enter your birth time in the free Ziwei Doushu calculator and find the cell labelled 疾厄; the chart labels are in Chinese. That cell shows your health tendencies. The main stars in it are called major stars, and there are fourteen of them.
When life gets busy, people wear out in different places first. One person sleeps badly, while another forgets to eat. This palace describes that kind of tendency.

Parents, Siblings and Property: The Health Palace's Three Directions and Four Squares
Read this palace together with the Parents, Siblings and Property palaces. These four are its Three Directions and Four Squares (San Fang Si Zheng): the four palaces you read together for any one palace.
| Role | Palace | Covers |
|---|---|---|
| This palace | Health Palace | Constitution, the body systems that carry strain first, and the mind-body link |
| Opposite | Parents Palace | Parents, elders and bosses, and luck with study and paperwork |
| Trine | Property Palace | Property, home life, family assets and savings |
| Trine | Siblings Palace | Siblings, mother, close friends and partners |
The Parents Palace sits directly opposite. It brings in family habits and the constitution you were born with. The Siblings Palace brings in brothers, sisters and peers, and the Property Palace brings in your home.
If everyone at home stays up late, for example, your own bedtime tends to drift later too.
The 14 Major Stars in the Health Palace: Element and Self-Care

Malefic Stars in the Health Palace: Watch Your Routine and Stress
A malefic star here mostly asks you to watch your routine and stress; it does not mean illness. Six stars count as malefic, and each is hasty or draining by nature.
| Star | What to watch |
|---|---|
| Qingyang | Impatient; pushes on when tired |
| Tuoluo | Things drag; fatigue builds slowly |
| Huoxing | Quick temper; rushes when anxious |
| Lingxing | Keeps quiet; stress stays hidden |
| Dikong | Many ideas; attention scatters |
| Dijie | Small chores drain body and mind |
The Four Transformations in the Health Palace: Your State over a Period
A transformation landing here describes your state of body and mind over a certain period. The Four Transformations (Si Hua) are Hua Lu (wealth), Hua Quan (power), Hua Ke (fame) and Hua Ji (obstacle). Each Heavenly Stem attaches them to certain stars.
The stems are a set of ten characters, from Jia and Yi through to Gui. Three kinds of transformation matter here, each active for a different span:
- Birth yearfrom your birth year's stem, active for life.
- Decadechanges with each ten-year Decade Cycle (Da Xian) and covers only that decade.
- Annualchanges every year with the Annual Fortune and covers only that year.
| Transformation | Tendency in this palace |
|---|---|
| Hua Lu | Recovers well; comfort may bring weight gain |
| Hua Quan | Strong stamina; prone to overwork |
| Hua Ke | When unwell, finds the right care more easily |
| Hua Ji | Stress is hard to let go; the body feels tired first |
For example, Lianzhen takes Hua Ji when the stem is Bing. Here it is often read as bottled-up feelings and building stress. It reminds you to give your mood an outlet.
Empty Health Palace: Borrowing from the Parents Palace
When this palace has no major star, it borrows the major stars of the Parents Palace directly opposite. Empty palaces are common. Most charts have two to four of them.
A borrowed star keeps the brightness and transformations it has in that palace. Treat it as this palace's own major star and look it up in the star table.
The Parents Palace carries your family foundation. So when this palace is empty, your constitution tends to follow family habits.
Using the Health Palace for Everyday Self-Care
This palace is most useful for finding the habits that deserve more care. Start with these:
- Routinefollow your star's note and keep fixed times for sleep and meals.
- Stresswith several malefic stars, set aside regular time to unwind.
- Check-upsregular health checks tell you more about your body than any chart.
- Slower periodswhen a decade or annual Hua Ji lands here, plan more rest for that stretch.
- Symptomsif something feels wrong, see a doctor.
