What the Fortune Palace Shows: Mindset and Contentment
The Fortune Palace (Fu De Gong) shows your mindset, your pastimes and how you enjoy yourself, and what leaves you content. Two people can live the same simple life, and one feels content while the other feels something is missing. That difference is what this palace reads.
Enter your birth time in the free Ziwei Doushu calculator and find the cell labelled 福德 to see your mindset and contentment; the chart labels are in Chinese. It is one of the twelve palaces. Count two cells clockwise from the Life Palace: the first is the Parents Palace, and the second is the Fortune Palace.
The cell also shows an age range: the ten years your Decade Cycle (Da Xian) spends in this palace. Each one is a ten-year stretch of your fortune. During it, life tends to turn toward your interests and your state of mind.

The Fortune and Wealth Palaces: How Mindset Shapes Spending
The Fortune Palace sits opposite the Wealth Palace, so your tastes and moods often decide where your money goes. Under stress, one person goes shopping and another stays home with a book. One palace shows how money comes in; the other shows why you spend it.
So if money never seems to stay, the cause may be how you feel about spending, not what you earn.
Read it together with the palace opposite and two more. These four are its Three Directions and Four Squares (San Fang Si Zheng).
| Role | Palace | Covers |
|---|---|---|
| This palace | Fortune Palace | Inner life, pastimes, how you enjoy yourself and contentment |
| Opposite | Wealth Palace | How you earn, spend and think about money |
| Trine | Spouse Palace | How you love, the partner you choose and married life |
| Trine | Travel Palace | Life away from home, public image, opportunity and helpful people |
The other two are the Spouse and Travel palaces. So love, and how you fare away from home, also colour your mood.

Ziwei in the Fortune Palace
With Ziwei here, you care more about quality and taste in life. You feel most content when you are respected. When you feel low, you may buy something nice to make up for it.
Tianxiang in the Fortune Palace
With Tianxiang here, you feel settled when life runs in good order. You also tend to worry over other people's affairs.
In that case the Career Palace always holds Qisha, and the Life Palace always holds Tanlang. So you may push hard at work and with people, yet long for calm inside.
Empty Fortune Palace: Borrowing from the Wealth Palace
With no major star, this palace borrows the major stars of the Wealth Palace opposite. The rules are the same as for an empty Life Palace:
- Major stars onlyits other stars stay where they are.
- Same brightnessa borrowed star keeps the brightness it had there.
- Transformations tooany transformation a borrowed star carries comes along with it.
The palace opposite an empty one always holds two major stars, so you borrow two and read them together. These stars are really about money, so your contentment tends to rise and fall with your income.
The Four Transformations in the Fortune Palace
