The Wealth Palace shows how you earn and spend, not how much you keep. With no major star, it borrows the stars of the Fortune Palace opposite. That is no sign of bad money luck.

What the Wealth Palace Shows: How You Earn and Spend

The Wealth Palace (Cai Bo Gong) shows how money comes in and goes out, not how much you have. It is one of the twelve palaces in Ziwei Doushu. It also shows how steady your income is and how you feel about money.

Enter your birth time in the free Ziwei Doushu calculator and find the cell labelled 財帛; the chart labels are in Chinese. If that cell has none of the fourteen major stars, your Wealth Palace is empty. Major stars are the chart's main stars, such as Ziwei.

The cell also shows an age range: the ten years your Decade Cycle (Da Xian) spends in this palace. Each one is a ten-year stretch of your fortune. During it, life tends to center on income and money.

A palace with no major star is called an empty palace (Kong Gong). This is common. Most charts have two to four of them.

Empty Wealth Palace: Four Rules for Borrowing from the Fortune Palace

With no major star, the Wealth Palace borrows the stars of the palace directly opposite, the Fortune Palace. It covers your mindset, your interests and how you enjoy yourself. Borrowing follows four rules:

  1. Borrow only its major stars, not its other stars. Some articles say to borrow from the Travel Palace. But that palace sits opposite the Life Palace, not this one.
  2. A borrowed star keeps the brightness it has in the palace it comes from. Brightness is how strong a star is, on a scale of seven levels. Temple (Miao) is the strongest and Fallen (Xian) the weakest.
  3. A borrowed star brings its Four Transformations (Si Hua) along.
  4. Minor stars in this palace itself, helpful or harsh, still count. They are not major stars, though. A palace holding only them is still empty.

The palace opposite an empty palace always holds two major stars. So an empty one always borrows two.

Read these two stars as if they sat here. In the star table, read their rows together.

These stars come from the palace of mindset. So your interests and mood tend to show up directly in what you earn and spend.

Life, Wealth and Career: The Wealth Palace's Three Directions and Four Squares

Read the Wealth Palace together with the Life, Career and Fortune palaces. These are its Three Directions and Four Squares (San Fang Si Zheng): the four palaces you read together for any one palace.

OppositeFortune PalaceInner life, pastimes, how you enjoy yourself and contentment
TrineCareer PalaceHow you work, the fields that suit you and the shape of your career
TrineLife PalaceTemperament, working style and life direction

One palace shows who you are, one your work, and this one your money. The three pull on one another.

How you work often decides whether you earn a fixed salary or get paid by the job or by results. Your temperament shapes how big an income swing you can live with.

The fourth palace brings in mindset. On the same income, one person spends at ease while another never feels it is enough.

The 14 Major Stars in the Wealth Palace: How Each One Earns

The major star in your Wealth Palace hints at how you tend to make money. When two major stars share the palace, read both rows together.

StarHow you earnMoney habitsWatch for
ZiweiPosition, management, professional standingSpends on quality and appearancesSpending on image can run over budget
TianjiPlanning, information, brainwork; often a side incomeBudgets carefully, likes to compareThinking too long can miss the moment
TaiyangPublic-facing work, serving people, reputationGenerous, often spends on othersWhen Fallen (Xian), gives a lot and gets back slowly
WuquFinance and business, handling money directlyDisciplined, watches the numbersBeing too exacting can strain relationships
TiantongIncome arrives smoothly without much strainEasygoing, dislikes keeping accountsSet a cap on comfort spending
LianzhenSpecialist skills, a way with peopleSpends big on impulseSet a cap on gifts and socializing
TianfuA steady job, building up step by stepConservative, a saverToo much caution can miss chances
TaiyinSlow, steady accumulationCareful, favours saving and propertyTends to spend when feeling low
TanlangNetworking, sales bonuses, many talentsEarns a lot, spends a lotPleasure spending can get out of hand
JumenSpeaking, teaching, law, consultingCautious, compares pricesMoney dealings can lead to disputes
TianxiangSteady income, helping others run thingsLives within their meansThink twice before guaranteeing a loan
TianliangExpertise, advisory work, caring rolesDoes not chase high returnsSpends a lot on favors and obligations
QishaSales, founding ventures, breaking through on one frontBig in, big outBuild a safety fund before taking risks
PojunOpens new income sources, often switches ways of earningSpends fast, often before earningImpulse buys and high-risk investments

The fourteen major stars fall into four groups. Stars in one group lean the same way with money:

GroupStarsMoney tendency
Zi Fu Lian Wu XiangZiwei, Tianfu, Lianzhen, Wuqu, TianxiangIncome tied to an organization, a position or expertise
Sha Po LangQisha, Pojun, TanlangFollows drive and opportunity; big swings
Ji Yue Tong LiangTianji, Taiyin, Tiantong, TianliangPlanning, expertise and service; a steady trickle
Ju RiJumen, TaiyangSpeaking, expression and being seen in public

Classical texts treat Wuqu and Tianfu as the two stars that rule wealth.

The three Sha Po Lang stars are always four palaces apart. When one sits here, the other two always sit in the Life and Career palaces:

  • QishaPojun in the Life Palace, Tanlang in the Career Palace.
  • PojunTanlang in the Life Palace, Qisha in the Career Palace.
  • TanlangQisha in the Life Palace, Pojun in the Career Palace.

So all three palaces lean toward change. If your income swings a lot, the cause is not this palace alone.

Hua Lu and Hua Ji in the Wealth Palace

Hua Lu in the Wealth Palace helps money flow. Hua Ji there makes you more likely to worry about money. Both belong to the Four Transformations, four tags for wealth, power, fame and obstacles. Which star gets which tag depends on the Heavenly Stem. There are ten stems, and every year has one.

Each stem attaches the four tags to certain stars. A transformation makes its star run smoother, stronger or more orderly, or it gets the star stuck. Three kinds matter here, each active for a different span:

  • Birth yearfrom your birth year's stem, active for life.
  • Decadechanges every ten years and covers only that decade.
  • Annual Fortunechanges every year and covers only that year.
TransformationTendency in the Wealth Palace
Hua LuMore chances to earn; money moves smoothly
Hua QuanStrong control over money; willing to make bigger money decisions
Hua KeOrderly with money, good credit, steadier income
Hua JiHard to let go of money; prone to money worries or a short cash-flow squeeze

The Complete Book of Ziwei Doushu calls Hua Ji "the spirit that minds too much." In this palace, that minding tends to settle on money. You go over the numbers again and again and never quite relax.

The stem decides which star takes Hua Ji. Three stars to watch:

  • Lianzhenwhen the stem is Bing.
  • Jumenwhen the stem is Ding.
  • Tanlangwhen the stem is Gui.

Three Common Misreadings of the Wealth Palace

The Wealth Palace shows how money moves. An empty palace does not mean less money.

  • "An empty palace means no money." It only means the palace has no major star. How much money you have does not depend on a major star being there.
  • "A borrowed star keeps only 60 to 70 percent of its strength." Some sites discount borrowed stars; we do not. A borrowed star keeps its brightness from the Fortune Palace.
  • "The Wealth Palace shows your lifetime wealth." It shows how money moves. Whether money stays is read with the Property Palace, which covers the assets you keep.

Frequently Asked Questions

It means you tend to put your energy into earning as life goes on. How steady your income is weighs heavily on your sense of security. The Body Palace (Shen Gong) is a marker on one of the twelve palaces. It shows where you tend to put the most effort as an adult. People born between 7 and 9 in the morning or the evening have it in the Wealth Palace.
Not necessarily. Hua Ji is about worry over money and cash-flow snags, not the size of a loss. Keep clear records of what comes in and goes out, and set aside a cash buffer. A chart describes tendencies, not fixed outcomes, and it is not investment or financial advice.
With Qisha in the Wealth Palace, income tends to swing more and comes from drive and initiative. Every ten years, a different palace serves as your Wealth Palace. If that palace holds Qisha, the decade often means putting in first and seeing returns later.
Hua Lu in the Wealth Palace points to many chances to earn and smooth cash flow. But more coming in often means more going out. Hua Lu is often confused with Lu Cun. Hua Lu is one of the Four Transformations and moves between stars with the stem. Lu Cun is a star of its own, placed by the stem of your birth year.
