The Travel Palace is you away from home: the way others see you. It also shows the chances and helpers you meet elsewhere. It sits opposite the Life Palace; read them together.

The Travel Palace Is You Away from Home

The Travel Palace (Qian Yi Gong) shows who you are once you leave familiar ground, the version of you that others see. It is one of the twelve palaces in Ziwei Doushu. It covers four things:

  • Public imagewhat colleagues, clients and strangers make of you.
  • Chances elsewherewhether a new place brings more openings or more obstacles.
  • Helpful peoplethe kind of person likely to help you out there.
  • Moving aroundhow much business travel, moving, trips and postings abroad you get.

Enter your birth time in the free Ziwei Doushu calculator and find the cell labelled 遷移; the chart labels are in Chinese. That cell is your Travel Palace. It always sits directly opposite your Life Palace.

Travel and Life Palaces: The Outer and Inner You

The Life Palace is how you see yourself; the Travel Palace is how others see you. Think of someone who says little at home but lifts the mood at work. Your home side shows in one palace, your work side in the other.

The two sit opposite each other, so you always read them together. Add the Spouse and Fortune palaces and you have four palaces to read as a set. Together they are its Three Directions and Four Squares (San Fang Si Zheng).

When the stars in the two differ a lot, you may seem like two people at home and away. When the Life Palace has no major star, it borrows the stars from here instead.

The 14 Major Stars in the Travel Palace: Image and Openings

The major star here gives a rough idea of the impression you make away from home. When two major stars share the palace, read both rows together. Fallen (Xian) means the star sits where it is weakest.

Hua Ji and Hua Lu in the Travel Palace

Hua Lu in the Travel Palace brings more openings and easy goodwill away from home. Hua Ji makes you more likely to rush about and fret over people or plans while away.

Both belong to the Four Transformations (Si Hua): Hua Lu (wealth), Hua Quan (power), Hua Ke (fame) and Hua Ji (obstacle). Each Heavenly Stem attaches them to certain stars, making a star run smoother, stronger or better known, or getting it stuck. There are ten stems, and every year has one.

Three kinds matter here, each active for a different span:

  • Birth yearfrom your birth year's stem, active for life.
  • Decade Cyclechanges every ten years and covers only that decade.
  • Annualchanges every year and covers only that year.
TransformationTendency in the Travel Palace
Hua LuMore openings and goodwill; suits branching out
Hua QuanTakes the lead away from home; trusted with big jobs
Hua KeGood name away from home; meets helpful people
Hua JiRushing about; worries over people or plans

With a Bing stem, Lianzhen takes Hua Ji. Here, that makes social trouble away from home more likely.

With a Geng or Gui stem, Taiyin takes Hua Ke. Here, it tends to make you known as careful and reliable.

Empty Travel Palace: Borrowing the Life Palace's Stars

With no major star, the Travel Palace borrows the major stars of the Life Palace opposite. You then act much the same away from home as you do at heart. The palace opposite an empty one always holds two major stars. They come with their brightness and transformations. Minor stars in this palace itself still count.

Should You Move Away or Abroad?

Whether moving away or abroad suits you is read mainly in the Travel Palace, checked against the Life and Career palaces. Three steps:

  1. Check its stars and transformations: more openings or more obstacles away from home?
  2. Look at the Life Palace: do you enjoy change, or prefer familiar ground?
  3. Look at the Career Palace: does your work call for travel or frequent moves?

When all three lean outward, building a life elsewhere tends to go smoothly. When only the first does, frequent trips may suit you better than settling far away.

The cell also shows an age range. That is the decade your Decade Cycle spends there, often a time of more moves, postings or life abroad.

Frequently Asked Questions

You tend to look outward as life goes on, finding your footing in the wider world, your network and on the move. Business trips, postings and frequent changes of scene are common. The Body Palace (Shen Gong) is a marker on one of the twelve palaces, showing where you put the most effort as an adult. People born between 5 and 7 in the morning or the evening have it in the Travel Palace.
No. It points to rushing about and worrying over people or plans; it does not predict accidents. Prepare a little more before you go. A chart describes tendencies, not fixed outcomes.
Only indirectly. This palace and the Spouse Palace belong to the same trine, so a love reading looks at both. It shows how your social life away from home affects the relationship. We do not treat it as your partner's palace or read your partner's traits from it.
